There is a definite benefit to having an industrial building with parking lot space in the back. Next door had a tree service take down a dead standing Pine tree. I walked over and asked the leader of the two-man crew what they were doing with the rounds. They were taking them to the dump. I pointed to the pile behind my building and told them they could dump them there. Probably half a cord of shoulder season wood in 14-16" rounds for next year got dropped. Creeping up on three years ahead.

That is perfect. I hate to burn primo hardwood during shoulder season. I need the oak, mulberry & locust for my overnight burns.(6-8) hr.'

Agreed. It is doubly important for me because I use Pine at various times throughout the season to help manage coals. I'm looking forward to splitting some of this to see how dry it is. It was standing dead for quite a while.

For the first time in probably 35 years burning, I am burning some pine. After reading on here last year about pine, I decided to go on my property and cut up the dead standing pine. I got about 2 cords total. I can't tell you how happy I am. One, it burns hot, two, it dries fast, and three, I'm not using my oak! Perfect! I have about 20 cords of oak c/s/s. I use about 6 cords of wood a year. Now I'm not dipping into it, and probably won't til about December 1st or so.

Also, dry time was fast. I cut up and split the dead standing pine in March, and it's as dry as a bone right now!

Yeah its great for shoulder season for many of you, or for us in the west its great for all year when you are around the stove and dont mind loading every 5 1/2 hours. There is so much lodgepole in our area that its a great day time firewood allowing me to save the denser wood for overnight burns. Nice score Andy S!

Didn"t want to start a new thread but I just got a lot luckier. Same tree company dropped a dump body full of 6" Maple logs today.

Nice score on the pine. I use it in shoulder season (what's burning right now) and for kindling. Nice score on the maple too. Wish I could get a score that included free delivery :(
