I recently had a VC Merrimack installed and have been burning it for about a month now daily. I've been using an IR gun to take temps from the top of doors just above the glass (as this is the hottest external location of the stove) but wonder if this is going to give me accurate info. Most of the time the IR gun at this location reads between 350 and 400. The hottest I've had it was 600. I mainly want to know for optimum burn and so I don't overfire it. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Glen
