VC RA 2490 owners; OAK question

Greetings

For those owning/using a VC Resolute Acclaim 2490 - do you have an outside air kit attached? If so - could you send me/ post some pictures. I found a kit for @ $200 online (seems pretty steep for what it looks like) - but the ad says the 'outside adapter' may be needed and is Not in the kit! I've looked at the bottom of my stove and cannot figure out how this would attach anyway. It's required for my mobile home installation - any help would be appreciated.

I've tried searching the forum to no avail.

The kit is required for mobile homes so why not just order the proper one for your model stove? I'm not clear on what you are looking for

It is not inherently obvious looking at the bottom of the stove - how the adapter fits (?) where the air intake is.

I believe the "outside adapter" is the exterior part of the OAK. So what goes there depends on the install.

yeah - in this interim, I have finally found a shop that can order an adapter for me; it will take 3 weeks to get here and cost $100!! Plus the "Kit" (w/o the adapter) is another $200! That's already about 3/4 of what I paid for the stove! I don't have that kind of $$. The adapter attaches to the stove so you can attach the kit. I was hoping to 'create' my own - with help from photos or an installation page. Thing is - the bottom of the stove at the air intake is not flat - and there's the lever movement to consider. Guess I can always jerry-rig w/o photos etc. Just thought it would help.

That's a good explanation and sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. Maybe now that people know exactly what your looking for you'll get a better response!

I assume you need it bc mobile homes are so tight and have insufficient ambient air exchange, but why wouldn't just a hole in the floor do the trick with like a pipe of some sort that gets the air near to the intake? Like so what if a little spills? I've seen them like this, but I admit this isn't exactly my department...

I don't have a stove to check. Can you describe the OAK connection or hole on the stove? Is it round, rectangular, oval? What are its dimensions or diameter? Does the hole have a thin lip or a thick cast section? Pics are good too.

Thanks defiant3 and Begreen: - Woody is correct - must be attached. Also - this is an older mobile home ('95) so not quite as tight as newer models - but still pretty well insulated. But I never quite got (still don't get) why the outside air wouldn't attach to the stove to create a 'sealed' unit? why would I want an open hole in my floor to poor cold air into my house?? This I don't get. I'll open a window first. But I'm probably missing a piece of the picture.

Kelly, please include measurement(s) of the hole with the pic. I'm not sure, but perhaps there is a less expensive workaround.

OK - the air intake is about 6.5" x 4.5"; and 1" deep. I have yet to clean the rust off the bottom - anyone have a grinder I can borrow??

also - worst case - if I can't 'make' an air intake - I'll use the stove w/o it and sit on the permit I pulled pending inspection til . . ????? Not having an air intake is not going to burn down my house!

That looks like the front air intake. Is there no OAK port on this stove?

uhhhh . . . there is no other hole in the stove that I've seen that would allow air in. With the exception of thoroughly inspecting the bottom - which looks like cast iron - I've been all over that stove cleaning it. It's dark outside now - and it's sitting in front of my garage - so I'll look again tomorrow - but I highly doubt I'm going to find anything else. the manual give no clues. I've read about 'pop-out' cold air intakes - but doubt that exists on this stove - being as its cast iron all the way around.

btw: I downloaded the manual; the manual does not provide any indication for stove year it applies to. perhaps my stove is older than the manual?

wow - life intervenes . . .

So - no - there is no other outside air port on this stove. I did find a photo of an 'outside air adapter' (attached) but it makes no sense to me; it must attach to the bottom heat shield (which I have) but without a better photo I can't figure out why the inlet is below and how the air gets to the top. this part is $100! HA! the adapter measures 16" x 9" which is much larger than the air intake area

Perhaps I'll post a photo later - after the stove is in - and heat shield attached - for ideas on how to devise an outside air intake (probably with damper cuz it doesn't look like it would ever be a 'sealed' unit)

I've been wondering how their system would deal with the air control rod. This appears to just deliver air up to the front of the stove.

I too will install a OAK, I have a hole on the right lower left side. That’s my stove on the left, don’t know what iteration this Resolute is yet, any help on that. Also I will make a part to fit this model and post photos with dementions. I will use automotive flex exhaust pipe. I have to have an OAK , or keep a window open...
