I tried to search this but couldn't find much recent activity so if there is a thread, please post the link.

I'm needing to put 12' of 8" stove pipe between a Hearthstone Equinox and a cathedral ceiling. It will have two 45 deg elbows, to offset a foot+ to avoid going through the peak, otherwise a straight run. I'd like to put vented stove pipe with slots at the top & bottom of each double wall pipe but have not found anything about the pros & cons of vented. There will be about 8' of SS chimney above the stove pipe. Everything I read is saying that the vented and non-vented are both 6" clearances.

I'd just like to recover as much heat as I can and think this is a great alternative. Suggestions?

Vented will reduce clearances but not help much with keeping the stack temps up non vented does both.
