first thanks to all for your help.

I posted and question and got great responses.

I have a grizzley wood burning insert..(this is what it looks like) (broken link removed to http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/hsh/1472454614.html) I have an old masonry fireplace. The info I have received is to vent the stove verse just sticking it in the fireplace. The Stove has a round 8” vent….I have been told to remove the damper (which is maybe 3” in width by maybe 12” or 16” long..does that sound right? I’m really was not interested in running a new liner down…is there a way to adapt that 8” circle vent through that flue….or can you give me any ideas…thanks…

Cut or break that damper out and get 8 inch to 6 inch stove adapter then
run 6 inch flex pipe to top.You can even get oval pipe to pass the damper if
need be.
