Article in the local paper states that Vermont Wood Pellets has suspended operations and laid off most of their workers because of the slow down in sales. Anticipating reopening at the end of March. Will use this time to do some retooling of the equipment. Will still have retail sales at the plant.
I feel bad for the workers.

They still only sell to locals at the plant? I called them last year and they said unless you lived close to the plant, they wouldn't sell direct to you and you had to buy from a dealer.

And dealers are selling for $7/bag.

Not relevant I know but here Spruce Pointes are selling for $7.49 a bag. For all intents and purposes Fireside Ultras, smell like , look like and burn mighty close to the same and sell for $5.18. IMO? Both are too high !! Pellet distributors and chain stores need to come in line. Pellets are alternative fuel . I'll go back to sleep now.

Vermont's are a nice pellet but very overpriced IMO. Sad they had to shut down but how long could prices keep going up? Just another bubble?

They were $300/ton when we ordered ours back in July (same price as 2014). In Sept our dealer sent us an email saying VT Wood Pellets wasn't taking new orders but existing orders would be filled (we got our 4 tons in Oct). From that I would take it production was being scaled back even then, which I took to mean possibly a shortage of raw material.

Boggles the mind how high pellets are even with oil so cheap. Sets are.$4.98 a bag here and Menards is trying to unload junk pellets like Indiana Hardwoods at $199 a ton.
