For some reason I think vintage fans are cool.
This winter, one of my fans/heaters at the cabin had the heater part quit. The fan worked fine. Ok, should be an easy troubleshoot. I grabbed a multimeter and started testing the heating circuit. I couldn’t find the break. I called another set of eyes over and ran through my findings. We looked over everything we could see and found no breaks. We ended up plugging it in. He saw a spark below the heating coil. I pulled it apart and found that the cloth wires frayed under it. Probably just a little bit of rubbing every year since the 50s, lol. Since it was rubbing against metal, I guess it’d still have continuity some times.
I’ll get it fixed tomorrow. I can’t find my spool of stranded wire I know is in the shed from when I was wiring the boat.
