Waterford Leprechaun fire fence question

I just installed a Waterford Leprechaun 90 OSA, and I'm having trouble fitting the fire fence back into place, as some deterioration of the fire brick is blocking the channel it's supposed to go in. My question is, does anyone know what this part is supposed to do on this stove? I.e. will using the stove without it make the stove run hotter/faster, slower, or just less efficiently, or is it more about keeping the glass clean? Here is a diagram of the air flow from the manual with the profile of the fire fence highlighted in pink. If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

This looks like it keeps coals and ash from blocking the air flow which is pretty critical. Try to clean out and vacuum the channel clean so that the screen fits. It probably is time to replace some firebricks too.

Ahh that makes sense. Thank you! Yes I've tried replacing the fire brick but they are an odd size, larger but thinner than the standard. It turns out this is not an easy stove to find parts to! 😅

Yes, it's getting hard to get some parts. Too bad, it was a nice little stove. It may take buying some refractory stone and cutting it to size for a replacement bottom liner. Or get adventurous and cast your own.
