Good day:

Love this Web site and thanks to all that post and reply, I am looking at buying a used Stihl MS 240 for $250.00 1 year warranty and a extra chain, I'm new to this and I want to buy a good saw. I will be bucking about 10 cord this year and 5 cords after that every year. Is this a good saw ? I just need some feed back.

Thanks

Yes,
The MS 240 is one good saw for the money.. If your a hard core cutter of wood I would go for a MS 260 they run about 190 more then the MS 240.. I had my 026 snice 1988 and I cut 10 cords a year plus. I call it ol faithful and it is just that too.but yes the MS240 will do fine if you keep care of it.. One big thing is good 2-cycle oil not the cheap box store stuff.. Me I found out that stihl is one of the best out the for a two stroke engine.make sure you do not use boat motor oil or snowmoible oil.. Everone is differnt.. One thing I do is ..I don't mix it 50to1. I run 40to1 or 36to1.. I hope this helps

I wish you the best..

Thanks for the reply, I will see if the dealer has a 260, thanks also on thr tip about the oil.

I like my 250. It doesn't stall out while idling no matter what position I put the saw in, which another saw I had a long time ago couldn't do.

Just got back from the dealer and the MS 240 is sold, He doesn't have a 260 but he has a used MS 270, anyone have any thoughts on that saw?
He wants $330.00 for a used 270 with tax or $399.00 plus tax for a new one.

Any one out there use a 270?

Did you ever buy a saw? I have a MS310 and it is a cutting animal!

I don't think that there is any $tihl product that is known as a bad product, I just think you are paying a lot for the name. I am a recent Dolmar convert and would suggest you look at a Dolmar 5100. You can't beat dolmar for cost, power to weight ratio, or dependability. The one down side seems to be few dealers.
