What gauge steel is used for a harman hopper extension?

Does anyone know What gauge steel is used for a harman hopper extension?

Im not finding any one with one on craigslist..only ad I found goes unanswered..
So Im looking into having my own made. But I dont know what gauge steel the hopper is made of.
Does anyone know...Id assume 20 gauge but really dont know.

Got a set of calipers? You could try measuring it and cross reference it with a gauge chart.

I think I would check around for prices. I bought one several years ago from a Harman dealer for $160. I can't see than increasing that drastically.

$160 is more reasonable.
I haven't checked at any local dealers...Ill have to do that before I buy steel to make my own..

Just an idea, you could see what a tin shop would charge to make you one out of duct. Reuse the lid you already have. You would have to wait a year or so to paint it.

The last time I had one made it was about 50.00 I reused the lid that was on my stove. 10.00 for some primer and flat black and you're all set.
Forgot to mention to wipe the galvanixed metal with a rag soaked in vinager before painting it.
One other thing is you could make the extension flare out from the bottom so it will hold more but you would need to make a different door then.

Thats what I'll do ...move lid to extension.
Im in the process of seeing how much the steel Ill need.
Im going to use 20 Gauge steel and my brother's landlord has a finger press that he can use.

I dont know..but I wouldn't think it much of an issue..the weight bearing portion of the stove centered under the hopper..so I dont think it would matter.
I was thinking of making it larger than OEM which is 12" high..i was going thinking of going to 16 or 18..have to do some total height measurements to see if it will be cumbersome to pour in from that height.

You can "pickle" the galvanized with a vinegar bath and it's ready to paint.

they make a spray to remove the galv. it's ironically called galv off.

A friend who is retired from his family's metal fabrication business made me this hopper extension. He asked for $10 for materials. This spring, I will paint the extension black and change the handle to a more decorative one. It sits on top of the regular hopper and is attached with a clip. The lid to the regular hopper is still attached and stays open with the extension on.
