So far our low is 26.1 this morning, the basement temp started off at 73 with the temps up here at 69. We had lots of coals this morning from the overnight load of ash.

The first load this morning was pine, the temp in the basement hit 77 after my first cup of coffee so I headed upstairs.

Temps finally dropping. Went from mid 50s this afternoon, already at 38 going down to about 30 with strong winds. Fired the stove back up and after down to coals loaded up with what I think is some lighter ash splits what’s left of some shoulder season wood. Still have a bit more left to go through this week. Hopefully this will get me 12 hours in the active range til tomorrow morning around this time.

No fire since Friday night. Cold and wind coming in next few days. Wind chill forecasted to be 17 degrees tomorrow morning. Pretty good load of ash going in for tonight. Glass freshly spit shined.

Same weather here. I went with 1 oak split and 2 hard maples on the bottom row. 2 rows of 3 pieces of spruce each with one piece of hard maple on the top. Why in that order you ask? I dunno. 😂

My “filthy” glass (in comparison to @MRD1985 at least)

I guess that’s why a solid door is an option on these kings. If you can’t see through it what’s the point 😛

35, headed to 23 for the overnight.
Got started with some oak and gum. Been cruising around 600 but starting to drop off now.

Love that kindling box. Is it a reproduction or real? Either way it's pretty cool.

Door’s looking good, def meets my standards! 👏

Who needs a spit shine anyways?

Leftover from when my wife’s great grandfather cleared the stumps out out of the fields probably somewhere around the 1930s. There were several in the old barn. This was the only one in good enough condition to bring in the house.

And it has family significance! Pretty cool. Is there a story on the log holder? It looks like it's made a couple of rotations around the sun.

We have 23 for a low so far, this morning before the first fire the basement was 75 ( gotta love that beech) up here was 69.

Since we had nice coals from the overnight fire, we let them burn down more. The first fire this morning is all pine, hopefully we have another 2 days of pine left before we make the switch over to hardwood.

No, not other than it is a handmade rack from an antique store. I assumed it was intended to be a magazine /newspaper rack, but I can keep about two loads of wood in it if I stack it high on a cold or rainy night.

House was 68 when I woke up. Definitely a huge temperature change from yesterday. After almost 14 hours still had enough coals to get a fire going without any kindling. Just a little air on the coals. Not too shabby. More ash this morning on this old blustery day.

Edit : very nice secondaries. About 700 STT (last pic)

Burning season has officially started for me in central NC. This morning a load of white ash (EAB victim) and post oak are keeping us warm. This winter I'll be burning primarily white ash, post oak, red oak and white oak. Glad to be back!

27 with a real feel of 17. Mixed bag of black ash, cherry, pine and aspen. Partly sunny and getting up above freezing today. Warmup coming starting tomorrow for awhile with daytime highs in the 40's and low 50's.

Douglas Fir...
What's even better is what's outside my stove. More Douglas fir...
The great part is that I've consistently been able to bring in more than I've been burning, and I've been burning for at least a month. Only 1 cold start. Planning for a clean up around Christmas during some time off.[Hearth.com] What Is In Your Stove Right Now?
I've even installed a new light dedicated to the wood pile!

31 this morning and 35 midday. Cool weather all week. 3rd load of the day. Burning mainly oak, maple, Birch. Very windy here have to shut the air down quickly since drafting well! Main floor toasty at 76. 70 upstairs. I notice I have not had to clean my glass yet. 3.5 year wood sure helps. Burns hot 🥵 and clean!

I just finished throttling back tonight’s load that I started on last nights coals. Finally not another cold start! I have a load of oak and hard maple in. It was windy and mid 30s today without a lot of sun. We are expected to go down to 30 tonight.

Temp of 37 outside real feel of 23. 71 in the stove room load of aspen to take the chill off. I’m really liking this aspen that I have as a shoulder season wood takes off quick and puts out quick heat to get the house up to temp. Doesn’t last long at all but this time of year I don’t need it to.
