I have a 1920's Craftsman home in Washington. I've always wondered what these angled boards are in the basement at the very bottom of my chimney where it meets the foundation wall. I assume they are original to the building of the house and chimney. The boards are not connected in any way to those utility lines you see in-front of the boards which came decades later. Thanks for any ideas you might have.

That's the form boards for the hearth. They were supposed to be removed once the concrete sets up.
