So we recently moved into a house with a traditional open wood-burning fireplace. My only experience with a fireplace is as a child so my knowledge is understandably limited.
Can anyone please tell me what the vent in the attached photo is for? I can’t figure out how it would provide air to the firebox. Does it serve some other purpose entirely? Like circulating air under the house?
