I noticed that the flue from wood stove was loose. It moved up and down. Didn't seem right so I removed it. Cleaned it then I noticed the the connector that passes through the wall was really loose. And it came out! From what I can tell, the connector is double walled stainless steel. It slips over a portion that connects with the steel chimney insert. I think this connector was held in place by cement that has crumbled. Stove was installed by Mechanical/ HVAC contractor. Installed February 2006. Am hesitant to call this guy back.

As you can surely see, I am no professional wood stove installer. Please forgive my ignorance. I appreciate any suggestions, advice, wisdom, experience you have to offer!

Thanks!
Brian

Pictures for stuff like this are great.

All black pipe - chimney connectors - should be mechanically fastened (screws).....in addition, using furnace cement in seams will tighten up the job.

Amen and second that. A friend almost bit the big one last winter when his stove pipe came off the wall, no screws of course. He woke up to a house full of smoke, really lucky that he made it. Death is forever I'm told.
