What would be a good steel or steel and cast wood burner for $1200 and under?

The hearth is framed with 2x4's each section is bored for air flow. This is topped with 3/4 plywood topped with 1/2 sheet cement board and then ceramic tile.
 
That was my concern, unfortunately the hearth as described is not suitable for the 13NC. The insulation on top of the combustible 2x4's is just the cement board at R=.26. The 13NC requires a hefty R=2.0. You'll want a stove that requires just ember protection like the PE True North T19 & Napoleon 1400/1450.

Yup, it varies with the stove. The 13NC is a good stove. It would be great if Englander made a bottom heat shield option for it to reduce the hearth requirement.
 
I thought puttin in a stove would be easy.lol With out tearing the hearth up the only thing i could do would be put a prefab hearth on top for added protection or a stove with bottom shield huh? have it all tiled,hate to ruin it.
 
The T19 or 1450 should be available for under your stated budget goals.
