My stove is a vogelzang defender. I have a 6 inch ss flex liner measuring 23 or so ft up existing chimney.im burning dry maple right now i load the stove up as much as i can with such a small firebox around 9pm. I then have to get up around 1 or 2 am to load the stove up again. mostly coals are left. This is with the air shut down as low as it will go. Then im up for work at 5 load up again then im usaully home by 5 pm. I live bout 10 mins from work and i went home at lunch today to stove that had maybe 2-4 coals left. Wasnt my funnest lunch ive had haha would you all just let it die down during day and fire it back up when you get home or would you go home at lunch? the stove works well for my needs since i put the liner and block off plate in. it takes the basement about two hours to get up to 70+ during the cold weather were having right now. What do you think?

I would move the stove up out of the basement unless that was the primary area I wanted to heat. If the basement is uninsulated it is going to suck about a third of the heat right out of the walls and to the ground. If that is not possible I'd either consider getting a larger stove with a longer burn like a BK Princess, or I'd let it go out and light up when I got home.

I have good coal bed when i get home after 8- 10 hours the problem you are having is probably just the small firebox

We are mostly in the basement in the evenings. except for bedtime then wife and i and son are upstairs. the upstairs stays decent with the new windows sun hits them most of the day and warms it up as if there were a stove upstairs. Basement is insulated and i put insulation board in the windows and curtains up to help keep the heat in. I wasnt sure if me letting the fire die out everyday would be creosote nightmare. i would love to get a bigger stove but the boss(wife) doesnt want to spend the money right now ( think she would want to if she had to get up every morning at 1 or 2 am hahaha)

as long as your wood is dry and you can get the temp up pretty quick at startup it shouldn't make much more creosote at all

Creosote shouldn't be a major issue as long as the wood is dry. Enjoy a good brisk burn on nights and weekends. Or retire and enjoy it full time!
