I thought I knew a bit about files, but this is a new one to me. I keep seeing logging supply houses that include "goofy files" in their product lists. What are they? Are there left-handed files, like goofy footed surfers?

Goofy file looks a little like a triangle its for free handing a square filed chain...Sure theres other uses as well.

Somebody better tell Bailey's, then...

"Goofy files are shaped just like a raker file, except the rounded edges also have teeth. These files are used to maintain a razor edge on chisel chain and they will also maintain depth gauges."

Tell them what?
Tell them that goofy files are triangle shaped like you said. They seem to think they're of a different shape.

Ahh, what does Bailey's know, anyway?

Its just hard to make out the shape in the pic, but it is a triangle shape.

If you click on a SaveEdge goofy file, the picture shows a cross-section/profile view and it is definitely not even close to a triangle.

Your right the goofy is flat and the edges are use as well....triangle is called 3 corner.

It looks like the same shape as a raker file (flat on two sides, rounded on the the other two). The difference is, a raker file is smooth on the rounded sides, and a goofy file is sharp on the rounded sides. This is exactly what the text on the Bailey's site and the Save Edge site say.

Does not seem goofy enough to me. But now I have a lot of 3 cornor files hope they work! lol
