When do you plan on purchasing your pellets for next heating season?

Just curious on different consumers buying trends as they seems to be changing.

I voted May, but could have voted anytime throughout the Summer. I've been buying the left over stock that a local guy has. He gives me a price break and they're the best pellets of the 5 different DF pellets I've burned.

I'll buy pellets when the heating season starts. A local lumberyard stocks them all the time, there's no point in me buying early.

I voted September, but that is only because I pre-pay then at a local place that will store pellets for me to pick up at my convenience. They don't deliver, but are only about a mile from my place, so convenient. I don't have a truck or trailer (or trailer hitch), so can only pick up ~15 bags at a time.

I don't know of any places around that deliver and have decent prices so I pre-pay 3 tons at the local place, then pick up bags at HD throughout the season. I can only store 2 tons - maybe 3 tons if I push it (and don't have ANY left over from the previous year); most place charge between $65 (HD) and $150 (stove dealers) to deliver, so the delivery costs can really kill a deal for short tonnage.

getting a trailer hitch and light kit Put on my Toyota truck at U-Haul next week.then will get the 4x6 Trailer at TSC...
lowes has what looks like the same rig for a bit less but many here have told me that the BBS trailers are not as good quality as the Tractor Supply Rigs..

Always buy end of April That's when my dealer has his spring pricing 4.5 tons.
He then stores them for me to be delivered in September . This may be the last year.
Pellets are getting to pricey may go back to wood as I have a 220 acre bush lot

My truck came with the hitch lights and wiring for trailer brakes. All I had to do was buy and mount a brake controller and plug it into the existing connector under the dash.

Just like last season, I'll order 5 tons just after Labor Day from my local HD who offer free delivery. I could order earlier, but if I wait, I noticed the last 2 seasons that when there's a demand crunch and supply shortage, my HD gets Blazers. Waiting to just after Labor Day gives me a chance to get my order in, in time for October delivery, and still benefit from possible Blazers in the supply chain.

Going to stockpile 10 tons throughout the summer, plan on buying two tons a month (truckload), easier to fund it a little at a time.

Other than maybe getting a better price...
Just for an example.. We are running specials right now.
I can without any hesitation, tell you they are going to go up...
Not to say that everyone will do the same, especially BBS.
But we already know that our price delivered to us, is going up.
Our regulars, are already buying.
Lacrete $279... around here, that is a great price.

As many have said it's when prices are best in the area for the desired pellet. In my area local store do early buys may/juneish

Easy answer for me, it's always the same. In july I pre order and pay a deposit on X number of skids and pick them up in September. No pellet shortage here, never has been. I will run a 50-50 mix, corn/pellets next year versus straight pellets this year (last year corn was 7 bucks a bushel, not practical), this year it's under 4 bucks delivered and tanked (very practical). I always get Somerset hardwood pellets, well, have for the last 5 years now.

HD here didn't get pellets till almost November and most we're crappy pellets..
Blazers didn't show p till mid December..and who knows if they will again....
