There’s no universal answer, other than to have it cleaned before the dirty chimney causes an issue. The time between cleanings depends on your stove, the wood quality going into the stove, the construction of the chimney, skill of the operator, and how often the stove is used.

If you’re new to burning, I’d have somebody take a look at it mid season, and then have it cleaned at the end of the season/before the next season starts. That’ll give you 2 datapoints to tell you if you need to change how you operate your stove.

Before you have a chimney fire is the best time, after is a good time.
If you know nothing about the chimney and the stove or fireplace I'd call them before I burned anything. If you've been burning but never had it cleaned or inspected it would be a good time to call.
