Where is There a Good Spot for Thermometer On Hampton HI300

This is my second year running the HI 300 witthout a thermometer. Thought I was running it pretty good until I had the flue cleaned. The guy that cleaned it said, I could probably run her a little hotter. He based this on the amount of soot he got out of the flue at the top few feet. He said the botom of flue was not bad, most of the soot at the top. Flue is onlt 17 feet or so.

So my question is for anyone with a HI 300, do you have a thermometer, if so where do you put it?

There really is no great place the way it is designed. I picked up a non contact thermometer at Harbor Freight. It works quite well. The cat really likes it too.

This is where I put mine. You will need a flashlight to read it, but it works for me. Also, to get an accurate reading, read it before you turn blower on.

stejus, based where you have your thermostat, what temp reading do you shoot for?

550 on mine is cruising temp, but I think I'm low.

I have a Regency i2400 (same insert, not as pretty) and I have my thermometer right above the door against the stove body on the right side. Not sure if you can place it there on the Hampton.

With the thermometer in that location I aim for 500 to 550. At that temp, the secondary burn tube are glowing bright red. It seems to be a fairly good spot for the thermometer, as the fan auto-kicks on right when the thermometer reads 300, every time.

550 - 600 is where I put the blower on. Cold nights I let it climb to 600 before turning on blower.
