The title poses the question where is a good place to get them?

eBay would probably be a good place. I have seen a few for sale on there. I need one or two myself. I just don't know what brand, or if it really matters that much.

Condar and Rutland are both well known for stove thermometers.

I have the condar 3-4 chimgard. Seems to work well. I've seen them for sale at stove/fireplace shops. Got mine for $15 last year.

Got my Rutland at Home Depot......something like $15-$16.
