Hi everyone, Brand new here. Looking into getting a used Hearthstone H1 woodstove. I was told this is a BIG stove and heats around 3,000 sq ft home. Does that sound correct? I have a smaller home, around 2,000 sq feet. Would this be too big?

Also, does anyone know where I can get a manuel on this? On one of the front doors it says 1979 so I'm assuming that is the year it was made??

Any help would be appreciated!!

Welcome! Based on what folks have reported, I don't think it will be too big. It's an early model and not that efficient a stove compared to the later units. Try searching on Hearthstone I (that's a capital I, or roman numeral 1) as well as Hearthstone H1. There are several discussions about the stove. Here's a good one:

Welcome. I'm not familiar with the stove, but I doubt it is oversized for 2000sq. If it was a big steel beast maybe, but the soapstone is a different kind of heat, not the searing heat you get from metal it's a more even gentle heat. If it does get too hot for you just put less wood in it. It's better to have extra heating capacity than not enough.

What I need specifically is what the manufacturer requires for placement of the woodstove. How far away from walls, etc.

I PM'd you on this. I have a manual in PDF for you.
