I have been reading about wood stoves on this forum and googling for info for hours everyday since New years. I just bought a split level 1800sf. home( built in 1990) in June that currently has heating oil. It has a small US Stove non EPA stove that i HATE, it doesn't even have any air control to it so when you load it the fire roars and then burns out. The stove was their when I bought the place and is worthless to me. My last home was a 1889 farmhouse that I had to use an OWB to heat, so efficiency is something Im not used to LOL. The current flue is 6". Ive researched about every type around but am having a hard time narrowing it down.
I would prefer:
1. around a 12 hour burn time
2. the ability to load N/S

Probably not going to burn it 24/7, will rely on oil in shoulder season and use burner when the temps are 20 or below and on the weekends. Thanks

A 12 hour burn time is going to be tough for anything aside from a cat stove. I have a Jotul Oslo and can easily re light after 9 hours of burning premium hardwood. But, after the 6 hour mark I'm almost certainly below 300 degrees and the heat output isn't very significant.

Thanks for the reply, I wouldnt be opposed to a cat stove because the long burn time is rely what I'm after. As long as I can achieve the burn time without building up a lot of creosote. I have a lot of area to cut and dry wood so buring properly dried wood shouldnt be a problem. I really like the idea of the blaze king princess but dont know if I want to spend that much...

Most members of this site love their Blaze King stoves. Actually, I've yet to see anyone complain about them at all.

Define 12 hr burn time and tell us how large an area you are trying to heat.

Are you looking for a freestanding stove or an insert? If you want N/S loading and an insert look away from flushed inserts they have shallow boxes.

Looking for a freestanding stove with 6" flue, I really like the idea of N/S loading, the house is a split level 1800 square foot, a 12 hour burn time to me would still have a pile of hot coals burning, still putting off heat after 12 hours of not being disturbed.

Cat stove is a sure bet, and my Jotul F600 easily has plenty of hot coals to
get the fire going again after 11 to 12 hrs with a stove top of 150, with good hardwood.

I agree, cat is the way to go. As well as BK, consider Buck and Woodstock for cats. Most affordable is probably going to be Ideal Steel... plenty of threads here on that stove.

Hadn't heard of the ideal steel, but have been reading about it since your posting on it, sounds like it may be just what I'm looking for...

If I was going to upgrade my NC30 the Ideal Steel would be #1 on my list.

Ordered my ideal steel, They are backed up until march, but at least that means im not the only one who wants one! O well may not have it for this season but time to start stacking wood for next year...

Woodstock had a serious interruption in their castings supply which has set their production back by months. It happened at the worst time. They are struggling to catch up. Hopefully by spring the will start getting some breathing room again.
