White wash brick fireplace

Napoleon 1400 Fireplace insert
Soo my wife want to white wash the red brick, black mortar fireplace. I'm a bit concerned about this, we use the stove during the winter months as a primary heat source. Has anyone white washed brick before and tell me your experience?
