Who has a englander 13, or 30?

Just wondering who has a englander 13, or the 30? What average burn times your getting and how big of a room you use it in? Oh and also if you had to do it again would you buy the same stove? I plan on getting my stove next week and just wana get a good feel for what real people have in real suitations. not mfg ratings.

I have the 13, got it this fall for a part time stove in my garage. ILL need heat out there for weekends only. It seems to be a pretty decent stove for the money and for a steel stove. My dutchwest and Jotul will out perform it hands down, but like I said its justa part time stove. About 4 or 5 hours max

Yup, we love it. And even the 13 would be way overkill for the shop. But I've grown to love those Englanders, even though I don't have one. I like the design philosophy...simple and functional and affordable. It's a stove, not a piece of furniture (where have I heard that before?). Rick

I should have added that it is not the stoves fault. I am trying to figure out why my house loses heat so quickly. The stove reaches 650 degrees in about 25 minutes and screams for hours with heat but I am trying to heat 3700+ sg ft with it. I have noticed a few more things about the stove compared to my catalytic insert upstairs. The ashes are half coals leftover that never burn. My insert leaves 95% ash. The stove burns great overnight. It is usually about 250-350 7 hours later. Maybe the manufactures fan will ease some of my woes.

You may need to increase the air intake? You might be damper down to much and that’s why your ending up with pieces of charcoal?

I thought the same. I'm used to the cat insert where once the intake is closed it stays that way and all is fine.

I will get a 6-8 hour burn if I load my 30 to the gills. It's only about 6 hours of good heat from it though, although there's plenty of good coals in the morning.

5-7 hours out of a 13NCL here. I can get more but the firebox is just hard to stuff full compared to front-back loaders. Note to Englander, make a 13 with a side door.

Other than that complaint it's been a great little stove.

We run them between 550 and 600 with the primary air rod pulled out with the tip of the spring on it just even with the front edge of the ash lip. It just sits there and cruises and leaves fine ash when it has burned all the way down.

I have a 13. Just installed it this fall. So far I like it. Not sure about burn times yet as I am still getting used to where to leave air intake, secondary burn, etc. Stove is in living room of a small cape. !st floor a little less than 1000sf. I don't think I have got the stove up to it's full potential yet but it seems to meet my needs. Not looking for 24/7 burns, just to supplement oil heat.

Easy fix. Screw the spring farther down on the rod. :lol:

Love my 13 from the get-go. This year I've got plenty of dry wood and a homemade blower so I love it even more.
The sweet spot for maximum heat/efficiency is just as BB described, with the spring lined up with the ash lip.

I've got the 30. I bought the 30 because it was going in my basement and figured if I wanted to have any chance of getting heat to my groundfloor I needed something that could put out a lot of heat like my Fisher. The ground floor has stayed nice and toasty (love the warm floors) monitor heater hasn't kicked on ever when running the stove. The only problem is the basement is HOT and you can't spend a lot of time down there without breaking in to a sweat. Very pleased with my purchase to date and have been running it for about a month straight now. I triple the air intake spring lining up with the ash lip as a good cruise control setting, my stove usually runs in the 500-600 degree range at that setting.

Bart, I just adjusted my stove and will try your method.
I have been pretty lucky, I push it in all the way and then pull out slightly and that seems to work pretty well.

I too have the 30 as I had to install it in my basement. The stove is a monster. I keep it hot around 550 - 600 because I have three floors to heat. If I allow it to cool I have nothing left but fine ash. I work from home so I have the benefit of controlling the temp with fuel rather than air. I have found loading it up with bio bricks at night give me close to 8 hours of usable heat I find the stove in the morning running around 300 degrees.

I'm not in the know enough to figure out just how facetious you're being, so I'll keep it light.

I bought the 30-NC based upon a few factors:

1) The great recomendations here.
2) The general consensus that it puts off an insane amount of heat and I'm trying to keep 2700sf at somewhere around 70 degrees.
3) It goes with the wrought-iron, spartan, basic sort of theme we've got going on in the house.
4) The fact that I paid 1/2 to 1/3 the cost of a comparable stove.

Thus far the Michigan winter hasn't really amped up. Some night down to 30 degrees, some daytime temps in the lower 40's. Far from really testing the stove, to be sure. But from what I've seen until now, I don't think I'm going to have to re-fill the propane tank. There may be some below zero degree days where my wife has to spend more time tending and adding wood to the fire than she might like, but I don't think the furnace is going to kick on. For $1000 (bearing in mind I was spending $400-$600 a month last winter to keep the place at 66 degrees) I think that's money well spent. It ain't soapstone, but well...

They are the best you can buy by far for the money.

the 13 I could get 6 hours average burn times.
On the 30 I get 9.
