Who's got a freestanding stove?

Hey guys. Being relatively new here, all I seem to read about is inserts and such, which doesn't help me at all with most of my questions. Who has a good old fashioned freestanding wood burning stove? And how old is it? Mine is a Glacier Bay, dimensions are 29" high, plus 7" legs, 29" wide, and 24" deep, plus the ash tray. It's about the largest I've seen around here. And it's been in my house for about 30 years I'd say. I just want to be the smartest most efficient burner as possible, that's why I'm asking you guys. Thanks so much in advance, keep up the heat!

Good deal! Great to hear from a 'neighbor' that knows the area! Thanks for the great link and info included, but that's not mine. Mine has the same winter landscape, but split between two opening doors, no ash pit. Just a two door monster, a fire brick lined goddess, that I have so much pride in since it was my Dad's, now it's mine, in the original house since birth.........

And thanks so much for that link, it made me really appreciate being here with people that would do something like that........... Thanks, from me.

Never had a Glacier Bay, but I have always had free standing stoves. I'm running a Summit right now that is this season new.

We have two in our house. The Quadrafire Isle Royale does 60% of the heating and the Hampton 300 picks up the rest. Both are beautiful stoves whether you're watching them burn or collect dust in August. It can be a hassle feeding both on very cold days but we're very happy with the heat output. Our backup system is a heat pump and the level of comfort variance between the two cannot be compared.

Ats a good question you ask. I don't know, maybe Web or one of the industry guys here has that info but I would think there are probably at least as many stoves as inserts. I got one and it isn't very old.
