second year of burning - but why in the heck am i burning in May??!!

last week in New England it was perfect.. i really don't want to burn anymore BUT i don't want to use heating oil either???

Had both of mine burning in Virginia last night. Then it got up to 83 today. I must have warmed up the whole area.

Only 60 degrees downstairs today and the wife wants to see that room heated and the fire burning when she gets home from work. So I don`t really have any choice in the matter.

I lit a fire Wed. night after getting back from looking at a Gravely. I used five Lignetics Compressed Logs. The living room was literally 100 degrees by the time I went to bed. And that was with the air control shut. Needless to say, no more fires for me this year, except in the burn lab. In fact, I'm considering kicking the A/C on right now, as it is 83 degree in here right now.

I just cut the grass for the third time today. Noticed the upstairs was up to 83 the other day and I needed a reason to "road test" the AC, soooo...

Hey, kids needed some air, Hon! All in the name of preparedness, ya know.

Chris

Still burning both stoves, at least in the mornings for a while most days. Still at or below freezing most nights. After a few days of nice comfortable daytime temps, we're back down into the 40's. Below normal. I wanna be normal. Rick

Me too Rick, but I just don't think it's in the cards.

Unfortunately for me, that's what my wife keeps saying, too...and she's a Clinical Psychologist, so I've about given up. :-S Rick

Normal is overrated anyhow...

uh, here in south Pennsylvania, I had an old timer lived next to me on 12 acres, can remember him sayin', like it was yesterday.....and I quote " Damn, what's with this weather, had to make fire in JUNE!"

haha, always remember that when I'm burning :)

Hey Steve I know what ya mean I burned a load yesterday just to take the chill off.. I hate to hear the furnace run too and it has been cool, cloudy and damp here as well.. I bought 100 gals. of heating oil 15 weeks ago and will need more soon because we need the furnace for hot water.. Saved a ton of dough heating with wood this year!

Because Al Gore is a liar................

For the same reason you shouldn't plant (or leave ) tomatoes (outside) until May 30th.
You're in New England !

Windy and cold here today. High in the 40's. Looks like another May fire tonight. I should of seen it coming, it's the fishing season opener.

I just threw a log on and I primered the front of my house today....don't think there was ever a time I was still burning while I was painting the outside of the house...but that's the way it is.

I'm burnin in the Albany NY area and will be burning tomorrow to keep my older relatives warm for my sons 21st birthday party.

mostly 24/7 here in NH still. It's often cool here near the coast in spring. We get sea breezes while 20 miles further inland its 10 degrees warmer. :-S . Don't mind though, it's always nice to have a fire going. Lots of pine, hemlock, just 2 fires a day, 12 hours apart, always enough coals to start the next one. Won't be long till we're completely done now though.

I only burn on weekends now as all my new projects seem to be outa town. Family is also gone away for awhile too. T-stat set @ 10 C so I know its been cycling
the furnace as it was on when I came home on FRI night. AND no Brother B the BK will not burn the whole week on a full load. :ohh: %-P Anyhow just the same
it was nice to fire it up when its that cool in the house and let her rip and run the fan to bring the temp up. Haven't seen the glass this clean in along time. Its amazing in only a weeks time with the stove down you still get that dusty burn smell. Up till 3weeks ago the stove was lit from September on.
Temps here in the day reach +12C and are -5C in the morns. Thats normal for here. Will go fishin tommorow but it will still be through the ice.
Thought I would check in and and say HI as Iam workin in the middle of nowhere and family is away. Hope you all enjoy your spring. Whenever it may come!!!
N of 60

North of 60 you have it just like Willhound does. Winter, Thursday, then winter again.

Now there is a place you can fly over and actually see it all. Not too much cloud, nor rain--Just Damn Cold :P

So don`t bother to open the parachute, you will freeze before ya hit the ground.

It is May and it is NORMAL to still be burning at this time of year here in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. Does that make me normal?

It is May and it is also normal to be burning at this time of the year in Michigan. No big deal. Heating season is not over with after the weekend either.
