I can speak only of my personal experience with my Breckwell, but I wonder why the hopper opening is so small and narrow. Is this true of other stoves? Is there a functional reason for the narrowness? Why can't I have an opening big enough simply to upend a pellet bag and let them all just drop in?

Not owning a Breckwell I wouldn't know but,
I have noticed that many Inserts appear to have more narrow Hoppers than Freestanding units. Even Harmans. Is yours an Insert?

I think I saw in a wood stove store they make a funnel that you out in the hopper when loading.. It's just a big piece of tin steel folded up.. It would be easy to make

what are the measurement?
Harman P61 here is 8" x 22". holds 72 Pounds.

It must be a brand specific problem, About 2/3 of the top of my stove opens up for access to the hopper, for a very large opening.

My Whit Insert has a small slit to load pellet's, when i purchased my stove i saw a new model then, the whole top lid opened, might of been a Quest, but they said the Advantage 2T puts out better heat, so thats what I bought 15 year's ago

My Harman has a nice big opening, just slice the bag of pellets open and dump the bag in.

The St. Croix has a very narrow opening; I only open 1/2 the top of the bag of pellets, which helps me aim and keep control so not too many end up at the top of the stove.

What model Breckwell do you have?
My P24i had a large opening and holds 70 lbs.
I can open a bag and place it in the hopper with no problems.
How many lbs of pellets is your hopper rated for?
Can you shoot us a picture?

Yes, I do have an insert, Breckwell P2000I.

The hopper holds 70 lbs.

But I see by the responses that hopper openings vary.
