Wood burner emitting chemical smell

Please help. We had a wood burner installed in the summer and it is emitting a chemical smell when lit and on high. First we thought it was the paint baking on, but it's gone on for months now. I ve recently noticed that behind the burner the fire board that was put in had discoloured/scorched. Could this be the problem? Is the wood burner to close to the back of the chimney? (We can't put the burner on high as the smell is so bad)

Can you post a picture of your setup, and this fire board your refering to? Also describe your entire setup from the hearth to the chimney cap. Then we should be better able to assist. Also what is the highest stove top temp tou have reached? The paint smell will continue every time you reach a new high temp for a while. After a couple hot fires it should be mainly gone though.
