Hey Guys..first time poster, forum came recommended

Bought a house, has a spot for a wood burning stove, so looking to get one and needing a good brand.

Wanting one with a glass door to see the flames. Also wanting a non-catalytic unit. And I don't really care to have an eclectic blower motor.
Stove will be used to offset electric bill in the winter time and as my primary source of heat when the power goes out.

Trying to heat 1300 Sq feet

Thanks in advance

Welcome, there are several good brand stoves on the market. How well insulated is the house? What is the budget? Is there a chimney in place already or will this be a new installation?

Look at the Englander NC-13, read the stove install / operations manual offered at homedepot.com, find out what your existing chimney is or if you'll need to install one, the manual offers many basic answers to questions. Also make sure you have dry fire wood, moisture less than <20%

House is pretty well insulated. There is a chimney pipe in place ... Size ??

Stove itself will be new . House was a rental unit before I bought and previous tenants stole the stove that was in it

Your chimney will dictate a lot for you. Make sure it's class A and in good shape and figure the length. That will help you figure out stove and budget etc. Having to replace the chimney could be very costly. Hopefully yours is usable.

I would take a look at the Englander 13NC, but it will need a well insulated hearth unless the floor is concrete. An easier hearth is with the slightly larger Summer's Heat Madison sold at Lowes. This stove is also made by Englander and has an ember protection only hearth requirement. It also has a nice large glass for a good fireview. Both of these stoves need a 6" flue of at least 15ft flue height and will need fully seasoned wood to perform well.

Alabama. That is a big state.
Are you down south near Mobile, or up in the mountains near Lookout Mountain? Big variance in temps in that state.
