Came upon a type of tree i'd never scrounged before...your thoughts?

It split easily with a fiskars but constantly had these little shards as seen in image 1857

That is Ornamental Pear. I think the official name is Callery Pear, but the most common variety is called Bradford Pear, and so most people call then Bradford Pear even though there are many varieties. I have a lot of it in my stacks and it burns well. It is sort of like Apple wood.

It was NOT light! no honey locust by any means but heavier than ash for maple I've lifted before. thanks fellers.

Next question....does it typically season quicker than most hardwoods?

I see Bradford Pear.

I don't think Bradford Pear seasons faster than other hardwoods. Sort of average I think.

Pear! I got a bunch.

It is heavy as heck cause its full of water. Splits chunky. You will not get nice clean splits like oak with it. It does however season fast. 2-3 months of summer heat and it will be light as balsa wood and burn fast. Works great for starting a cold stove or starting your fire pit.

No pear around here. I would have said the wood was ash and the leaf quaking aspen!
