Hey all, new to forums and wood stoves and chimneys and home ownership!

Bought my very first home and saw that the previous owner kept the original wood stove...outside. I've dug into older photos of the home and found a photo of it installed (attached last) where we currently have an empty fireplace and I'd love to return it to its place of glory. I haven't been able to identify the stove, but I've seen similar models online. ( see

Someone in this forum even has the same/ similar model (see https://www.hearth.com/talk/threads/information-about-englander-stove.138440/).

My first question, how would i be able to identify it? We have no sticker, no stamped tag, just the name on the front. Motor still works but the label is faded to white, so potential replacements would also be appreciated. I've attached a photo of mine after some wire brush rust removal.

My second question is, how would you recommend installing this into an existing chimney? The attached picture of the chimney diagram closely resembles my fireplace, except we have a steel firebox and chimney shelf. I've read in these forums that some people remove or cut into the firebox then liner straight up, squeeze smaller diameter liner in tight spots, get "ovalized" liners, etc.

The fireplace measurements are as follows:
Firebox: 48" wide by 20" deep
Damper: 44" wide by 6" deep or tall
Smoke shelf: 28" wide by 12" deep
Chimney: 11" square inside
Cap to smoke shelf: 14 feet
Floor to Damper: 44"

Last photo is how it was originally installed, and how we'd like to return it if possible. Also if its worth doing, we're not sure of the efficiency of this unit. One google reverse image search mentioned it could be an old and unsafe model but found no info to back that up. Plus all of the liners and adapters and the plate around the fireplace was removed and presumably thrown out so we'd be starting from scratch with this. Also we're unsure what the 4 vents around the fireplace do, we cant see into them and don't see any electrical for fans.

Greatly appreciate anyone who took the time to read this, and thank you in advance if you have any info to share!

I've seen pictures of that old dragon show up occasionally, but the knowledge of these original Englanders from 50-60 yrs ago is disappearing. What is the flue collar on this stove like? Is it round or rectangular? Based on the door opening size, it will need an 8" liner. There should be plenty of room to snake that down an 11" tiled flue. Be sure the chimney is fully cleaned first, including the smoke shelf.
