I found a mess of this stuff in the wood I had delivered in June, not sure what it is so I tried to split a bigger piece to get a moisture reading and it wasn't easy!
Pretty wet too at 23% quite a bit wetter than the oak in the same stack...

I've seen a lot of this wood as well, this one I should know I'm sure...

I knew that beech was something I wanted to set aside when I found it all this morning moving wood, even though I really had no idea what type it was.
I have a considerable amount of it (for me) and I'm hoping most of the pieces are dryer than the one I tested earlier.

The first top pics look like beech with some sort of bark punk.
the second pics....I dont know if Beech has those ray flecks. And does the heartwood have that pale blush? Not sure. The rot sometimes yes.
Bottom pics definitely Ash.

my guess

The top pic looks like beech the bottom ash.

If you can carve your name with a penknife in the gray bark
its beech.;)
