Hey gang. I scored a few dozen rounds of wood after a lot was cleared out in the woods by my house. I'm not sure what it is. Anyone know? TIA.
Maybe yellow poplar/tulip tree.
Looks like white oak from here. White can be a bit stringy and tough to split.
End grain shot would confirm Oak if medullary rays are visible...My old man said it looked like Oak, too. I'll post some split pics after I'm done work.
If you got "a few dozen" of those rounds, that is a score! Yep, Tulip would be smoother, not grainy like that on the split face. But I saw the flat ridge tops on the bark, thought I saw light gray in the furrows, and went Tulip.ASH!
I'm WRONG.........The splits are ASH! I had thought in the back of my mind but jumped to too quick of a decision.

Sounds like it might be more than that...I have a 5x8 as well.my 5x8 trailer, and made 3 trips. I estimate I have a solid cord.
