I thought persimmon at first because of the bark, but it splits too easy to be persimmon. Any ideas?

My first thought too was persimmon - alligator bark.

Looking out my window at my persimmon I have for next year and it has the same black line and bark as yours. One of the best you can get. I tried a stove load this last winter and it burned HOT , made good coals and lasted. Good sheet.

That is persimmon for sure. Persimmon splits really easy(at least mine did) when freshly cut. Let it sit awhile and it starts getting harder to split.

Persimion is a good guess. Could be black Tupelo though...

The Persimion I'm use to seeing has more defined, smaller and more pronounced squares. I'm really not sure though.

I hope you guys are right. I've had persimmon before, and it was definitely not easy to split. I wasn't splitting it fresh though, like this stuff. The fresh wood did split super easy.
