My stab is something in red oak group.
Does it smell like red oak (acidic, some say like vinegar) ?
Bark pics ?

No bark picture. Someone gave us a pile of this wood at a campground in Tucson, AZ. The wood is heavy and looks dry but didn’t burn well at all. Did not notice any smell.
