I am beating my neighbors pellet stove 5to1... I have a blaze king, "king" edition and I use very little wood to his pellets... consider, it's 10 degrees here now I have used 3 small rounds and he is on his second bag of pellets... Not telling Anyone what to do... Just impressed with the the blaze king

My 1988 Vermont Castings Encore sure out performs my neighbors gas furnace lol.
My gas bill was 43.00 last month and his was over 300. We also have gas dryer and gas stove

gotta love wood man... i use a diesel toyo heater... and we only fill maybe a fifth of our neighbors thanks to our wood stove... i love wood heat... nice to hear you have gas and your heat bill is down... good old wood stove

yes it is rare that we hear the gas furnace kick on. I have never ending supply of wood as I do land clearing and excavating. I would be a FOOL not to use wood.

I've never had a pellet stove and would not want one but I didn't fall off the turnip truck this morning either. Maybe your terminology is different from mine. 3 small rounds would be about enough to brown marshmallows in my books. Am I missing something?

Its hard to do apples to apples comparison between different stoves in different houses. Per weight pellets will generally have higher BTU per pound than cordwood, and often times slightly higher efficiency than wood stoves though that will vary with individual stoves and chimney setups. I highly doubt your BK is beating another stove 5 to 1 as you say, your thermal load must be quite different, or his stove is not running correctly. It would have to have an efficiency of like 20% or less. I run both in my house.

I have a wood stove and a pellet stove. In my experiences I use about 15 average size splits to a bag of pellets. A full load of my stove takes about 8 or 9 of my average size splits and will give me good heat for say 5-7 hours. Pellet Stove heating the house solely will take a bag of pallets about every 10-12 hours. I am heating a 2200sqft house and about a 1000sqft basement. Pellet stove is in the basement, and wood stove is on the main floor.

When running both the wood and pellet stoves, i can get about 36-48 hours out of 1 bag of pellets with the temp set to about 60. I usually only bump the pellet stove up higher when i am actively in the basement or on really cold days.

My P38 pellet stove uses a bag of pellets (40 lbs) every 18 hours (low to medium setting).
The FP10 would require a lot more than 3 rounds in 18 hours.

I use both wood and pellets in the same wood stove at different times of the year. I use pellet cages. Wood vs pellets on a full stove, the wood does last longer, but nowhere near 5 to 1. Heat is also comparable with pellets, in fact I believe the BTUs are released faster with pellets. Bottom line, a stove full of pellets gives some serious heat.

Yeah don't forget the bottom line here is that pellets are wood... and wood that has all the bad stuff (moisture, bark, dirt, etc) removed from the equation and compressed to specific density such that the species of wood are all very similar end result with the pellets.

Two things come to mind here..

My basement doesn't get much below 60 with no heat source at all, and, at 60F, I don't think of that as "heating" and I absolutely KNOW my wife doesn't.. lol

How big is a round? Same square footage? Same set temp? Same efficiency? Same insulation factored in? Same thermal load on houses? See where I'm going with this?

Duh, that took me half a minute - not awake yet. It's a great answer though. mmmmmm chocolate.

I think we a going to scare off a new member if we flog this any further. A BK King was one of my 2 top choices (even though I find it kinda ugly) when I replaced my VC. It's a great stove and I am sure you will love it.

I used a bag of pellets a day in milder weather and two bags/day when it was very cold. BTUs are btus, regardless of pellet stove or wood stove. If the house is losing 40K BTUs per hour that is what it's going to take to replace it.

The BK's are exceptional performers. I think they have the VERY best air control system on the market. I noted that BK does throttle the secondary air. Pellet stoves are such different animals, with the ability to continuously vary the fuel feed rate. The newer pellet stoves do claim efficiencies 80% and more. Very comparable to wood and of course EPA compliant so they do get secondary combustion one way or another.

Mean while, the neighbor is posting in the "pellet forum" how his pellet stove has ONLY used 2 bags of pellets and his neighbor has already burned 3 rounds in his wood stove.

I have both on my home. And I really like both! The beauty, when it's really really cold, or I'm home and want one, wood stove.

I concur as I have both as well. However, why NOT burn oil if it is cost effective? And how is it not renewable? As I said in the past, it just takes longer for you and I to liquefy into the ground, and future generations can use our remains to heat their homes. Just sayin.

Don't understand the "bickering" reference. To me it's more like supporting your favorite team. The game is the same no matter.
