Well lets see what the opinion is from the members here. Obviously most of you know where I am at so no need to discuss. Question is I ordered the 30 Ton Iron & Oak Horizontal Splitter from Wood Splitters Direct on October 15th for a planned ship date of November 15th. The splitter still has not been shipped. Was told 2 different times week of the 18th Nov and then November 27th were ship dates. Emails from wood splitters direct have been quick and often but they put the blame on I&O. Thinking of asking for a refund if not shipped by the end of the week. What do you guys think? Maybe a warning to those that order from the site? If I was home I'm sure I would be alot more upset.

I & O is a very well liked splitter. Built at virtually commercial grade. Most splitters on the market don't match the build that I & O use (even though most work very well for years). Its your call. If you are simply fed up with it and willing to go to a lesser machine then pull the trigger. If you are willing to wait it out for a very nice machine, then stick with it.

It very well could be I&O's fault. I believe they were bought out (by whom I don't know) and they are not the quality they once were. Remember my thread on the 3 leaky control valves on a brand new splitter. Contact I&O directly and see what they have to say.

and they are not the quality they once were.
Your issue is honestly the one and only negative report I have seen on these splitters. Maybe the buyout did have a negative effect - dunno. But I would caution making a blanket statement based off of a failed component that they don't even make. I hope for their sake they that don't take I & O down the path of a lesser machine. It would be a shame.

(broken link removed to http://www.woodsplitterdirect.com/iron-oak-30-ton-horizontal-log-splitter/) were in fact on back order and Iron & Oak did move the date back a few times waiting for parts. So the information you received is correct and they are now all shipping out. Call Iron & Oak directly to verify: 800-350-8739

This web site must be good luck. As most of you know I am in Afghanistan with the USMC and phones/email has been down the last few days, can't say why on social media. Either way, got word the splitter shipped December 2nd from the web site. I&O were bought out by Great Northern Equipment out of Rogers, MN. Hope the quality did not go down will see when I return. Emailed I&O and they responded that even if there is a problem with the splitter and I cannot assemble till January there will be no problem with the warranty. Hope this works. Keep you guys updated when I return home! Thanks for the responses.

Man, you keep your head down and your chit tight at all times while your down range in that sandbox! You bring yourself home safe and sound for your loved ones and so you can enjoy tat new machine! Semper Fi! And thank you for your sacrifice

If they put a failed component of another brand on their units, it affects their name directly. They are the ones authorizing the junk to be installed on the equipment. I'm on my 3rd function valve and with the last use I noticed a small leak. (only after splitting about 4o splits) My dealer had several I&O splitters of different tonnage and motors. After my issue he said he checked the others..........and the valves leaked.

I meant to say in my previous post that "maybe" they are not the quality they used to be. They sold out and as far as I'm concerned they aren't appearing to be the old Iron & Oak of the good ol' days.

Sorry to hear about further troubles with your I&O trailrated. I hope you can get that machine going the way it's supposed to. The splitter showed up at my friends nursery today and is being picked up in the PM with my dump truck so I finally got it almost home. I will be returning to the states here VERY soon and have to put in for my leave when I get to North Carolina. Should be home about a week or so before Christmas. I hope I don't experience these issues with my model but will see when I get home and assemble the machine. Should talk again before the holidays but if not then Happy Holidays to all of you! Thanks

I think the next question has to be, if you have an I&O or any machine that leaks oil with the valves, what is the best remedy, brand to replace the cheap and faulty with a good and dependable set-up? This assumes it is out of warranty.

God I hope I don't have to answer that question G6. Obviously my splitter is new and I do know that trailrated's splitter is new. This question is a good one that also needs to be discussed as valves for specific units. I believe that trailrated's unit is a vertical/horizontal 26 ton? That is a guess. May have to start a new thread for this one. Hope it's not necessary and I have no problems and trailrated gets his fixed due to the fact it's under warranty. Have you contacted I&O trailrated? What did they say?

Mine is the 22 ton. The control valve I have on it now is a "Prince" brand. It is a popular brand and made in the USA. I just don't know about their reliability. At least thats what I was told is on it. I don't know what brand the previous valves were, was told they were made in china.

I have not contacted I&O yet. Haven't got into any real wood processing yet, so the splitter is not being used. When you pull the lever to extend the ram, the small piston that is attached to the handle that enters and exits the valve as you operate it....... a small amount of fluid leaks from that.

Keep us posted Gunny on how yours turns out, and have a safe trip home buddy.

I am currently in Manas Kirkistan Airforce Base on the way so I will just keep you guys updated on this thread. Should be back in the states Tues/Wednesday I hope. Hey, trailrated I though you did contact I&O because you replaced the valve once. Or just tightened to stop the leak in some area's and continue to decide to contact if further leaks/problems? I did contact them, like I said above via email, about any damage to the splitter upon assembly and they responded right away and were very positive. Keep us posted and let us know what happens? Any time frame expected for use? Thanks

I assume your coming back to Lejune? Is that your home base?

I did not read it close but are you home yet? Have fun with splitter.

Thanks again for it service.

Hu rahhh

Well, I'm spending my spare time deer hunting right now, so when that slacks off I'll start processing some wood :) Probably with in a month or so. I let the dealer install the last 2 valves. This new leak I found (or keeping an eye on) is not a connection that can be tightened up. Actually all the leaks I had were valve related, not hose connections.

Well sorry to all for the delay. I am home and left Camp Lejeune, NC a few days ago. Man it's nice to be home! Splitter is together and so far so good, this thing is a BEAST! No leaks and no problems so far. Need to work it out good in the next month or so. I will try to keep updates coming when I can. I need to start stock piling wood to get ahead. Girlfriend has done a great job reducing my wood stock. Thanks Clemson and keep me in the loop on the splitter troubles trailrated. Hope the worst is behind you. Going to Florida to visit family/friends in January so I will be off line again. Thanks to all for your kind words and your appreciation. The Gunny has left the building!

Glad your back

Fifelaker, have not forgot about you. Thanks for the reminder. I am attempting to get used to normal life back home. I am going on a much needed vacation in January and then Jan-Feb I have to goto California for a brief for the military. When I return I will PM you and let you know what's up with a trip up north. Talk soon!
