Been a long time since I logged in, glad to see the expertise and community are still here. My brother in law is looking for a wood stove for a hunting cabin he just bought in the catskills (hardiness zone 5b, if that means anything). It's an old Quonset Hut, about 800 square feet (one level). Insulation (and general condition of the place) is not great - to be generous. He has electric baseboard heat in there, but also has tons of dry Ash sitting around the property he wants to get burning. Looks like someone had a stove in there at one point, there are two holes we could use for the exhaust, one out of the roof and the other would go perpendicular out of the side wall. I'd rather use the roof, but we have options.
I initially told him I thought the Englander 17VL was the way to go (I thought the price, style, ease of purchase at home depot all made the most sense). Turns out, I'm way out of the game as that doesn't seem to be available for purchase anywhere. The ones at Home Depot don't look that great to me, but maybe this one?
Any recommendations for a small, simple stove similar to the Englander 17VL? Price is a factor here, I don't think he wants to spend even close to $1,000. So maybe I just need to find something decent used, but figured I'd ask around if there were any you would recommend. Thanks in advance.
