Wood stove insert for arched fireplace

I am in the market for a fireplace insert that burns wood. My highest priority is viewing area and aesthetics. We love the way our fireplace looks but we never use it because of the massive heat loss. Any benefit to lowering my propane bill is a nice fringe benefit but not my highest priority.

My question is... the fireplace is arched and I'd really love it if the insert was arched as well to match and to maximize viewing area. Does one exist?

If not, what would people recommend as far as a nice looking insert stove that looks nice in an arched surround? I was looking at the Clydesdale 8491 but I cant seem to find an arched surround for it. Same with the Cabello 1700.

My avatar is the fireplace that I am getting an insert installed on Thursday. I've done extensive research for the EXACT thing you are looking for as far as an arched insert. I could not find anything. I was told some manufacturers make them for the gas inserts but not the wood. I am getting the 8491 Clydesdale installed on Thursday because that had the best viewing area, the soapstone liner for retained heat, and the surround extension is going to fit PERFECTLY to the surround you see pictured without taking away from the detailed carvings. I've been on this site like a crack head for the last 2 weeks gaining as much info as possible and you are at the right place. There are some seasoned vets here who can give you some great advice. I will keep you posted and show you a final picture once it's installed so you get an idea. My opening is 42 1/4" wide by 23 3/4" high on the sides, it's 31" to the "peak" of the opening. The surround extension is going to fit inside the "picture frame" that surrounds the opening.

Your going to want to post your firebox dimensions as well so the guys here get an idea of what your dealing with. Oh, the one I really liked but wouldn't fit my particular fireplace was the Alderlea T-5 Classic, it had a somewhat curved top and looked really nice but the Clydesdale came out on top because it fit better and had a slightly bigger firebox.

It may take a custom surround being made out of sheet metal to fit the arch. This can be painted to match the stove.

When I was shopping for my first stove/insert I absolutely loved the arched one I saw in person.. It had such a rustic and old school character to me. Sadly I then got the quote and just couldn't swing the price at the time.

That's a zero-clearance fireplace. Some can be very pricey because of the framing work and large chimney they require.

I'm in the same boat. I'm looking for a flush insert to fit a small prefab with a custom brick archway...not many options. The Lopi small flush hybrid-fyre will fit, but it will require some trimming on its fancy faceplate. The Regency CI1200 looks nice, but it has no blower, and the CI1250 is too tall. I need to take measurements on a Jotul C350. I think they look the nicest, but it will be tight. All are expensive.

That's a good suggestion and the only arched insert I know. However, as BeGreen already mentioned, most metalwork shops should be able to make a custom surround for most inserts that are out there. The question is what kind of area the OP wants to heat. That will determine what size the insert should have.

The PE FP30R is available with an arch top. Not sure if it would fit or not.
