Question:

My current stove is a Fisher Grandma Bear, and I'm looking for ways to improve it's efficiency. The stove does not have a damper, so I'm wondering if adding one would be of benefit. The next question would be, have you ever heard of an add-on catalytic converter, and would it be worthwhile? One company, Condar, sells a Fisher Retrofit. I asked them for more information, but they did not respond to my email.

Answer:

A damper would work out well for a stove like yours. So would a catalytic retrofit, although these can currently be hard to find. Keep looking and you'll probably be able to locate one.
