So the back story is I bought an unfinished cabin that had a wood burner just sitting there unused and uninstalled. I need to safely install it.

The stove is a S171E Cabot Elite which I have found was marketed under Haugh's brand name. This is a EPA certified stove from 1990. Its legs are 5" tall. It looks exactly like Century's S244 which makes sense since they bought Haugh's.

I have no manual to get the r-value from and a web search has turned up nothing. Since it is being installed in the middle of the cabin I don't have to worry about clearances to walls. I am concerned only with protection of the 1 inch plywood floor from getting too hot.

After reading the R-value table on this site I have come up with the following design:

A base layer of 1 Durock sheet 1/2" thick
Metal studs laid on their side for support. 3 inches of vertical air space
A layer of 1/2" Durock
A layer of 1/2" Durock
Ceramic tile 1/4"

Using the r-value table I am coming up with:
0.78 for the total amount of Durock
0.01 for the tile
4.29 for the air space
------------------------------------
5.08 total R-value

The air space will be passively vented and the hearth will extend 18in on all sides per code.

Any input or criticism would be appreciated
