The ole boxwood...been painted to cover up the white, overfired top half. I dunno what the doughnut would do to draft - at a minimum, it would act like a non-powered magic heat. But if the stove is glowing cherry red, why would one need to extract heat from the pipe?????
 
Please post pics, craigslist posting pics are gone in a week or two.

Funny that the paint is still wet and the stove is still sitting on the tarp it was painted on.

I have seen that doughnut in a couple workshop stoves over the years. Note the damper is way past the doughnut at the top of the flue pipe.

Someone got the stove free or cheap, it was way undersized for the shop space so they did the doughnut to extract more heat.

Happily my free woodshop stove is perfectly sized for my 600 square feet.
