Of course it don't get cold in Virginia.

Back in the '40's to 80's, It used to get very cold in the mid atlantic states. This was due to a cold oscillation in the pacific and other factors. I remember in those areas when I was a kid with it was regularly below zero. Heck, during the winter of 1982, in south central PA, from about December 25 to February 1, the day time temps never rose above freezing just one time. We aregoing to be returning to those times soon.

My apologizes to Brother Bart. I mistook your comment. No hard feelings I hope. I'm new around here. I really like this site. I'm online everyday and I am on this site everyday reading posts and looking at pictures. Learning good stuff. Plus it motivating seeing and hearing what you guys on here are doing. So I would like to be a positive here as we'll. So again Brother Bart I'm sorry.

Which Defiant do you own? PreEPA, Everburn, Cat, or the newer 2-in-1 Defiant?

I have the 1610 non cat. I got it in 2009.. I think Everburn is a term associated with my model. I like that it can take up to 25 inch wood although I cut most of mine 16".

I have the cat model. Hows the non-cat treating you. Some folks have problems with them, but I've never used it myself. What type of burn times are you getting and how much space are you heating with the stove?

Rumor has it that you can convert your non-cat Defiant into the new 2-in-1 setup.

I have gotten up to 12 hours with good oak. I have 2400 sf. I never had any problems with it. I've always burned well seasoned wood. I get the stove up to about 500. Degrees and damp it off. I know the Everburn is working when I hear the roaring or rumbling. I could have gotten a cat model but I wanted the non cat. Shortly after I purchased it they came out with the 2 in 1. I don't know what the 2 in 1 is all about I mean pick one or the other and burn it.
The only other wood stove I have used is an old Vigilant by VC. My new defiant is bigger better and puts out more heat. It's also not bad on the eyes.

What kind of burn times have you gotten?

I was freaking out that poor guy. I would open the door every time right before he would knock.

Well at least he isn't my mailman. On rainy days he will come right in the back door and leave packages on our mudroom!

Positive? This is outright war against the evil forces of cold and oil! There is no room for positives in war, only mean, ornery cold individuals looking to fight back those frigid monsters from invading our living perimeters and wallets! :) That being said, glad to have you here BIGDADDY and look forward to your contributions to the forums!

Longest burn I have had is 14 hours of heat production, but I only picked this stove up last February, so we will see what happens this year. I also ran a Vigilant previously. Good stove, but the Defiant and 30 out-perform it by miles.
