@samdweezel05 I got all hung up on wanting to a real simple horizontal out and just kept running with it. Thats the main reason there is no up/out or out/up... I have a generator to run the stove during a power out. I assume this will handle the "smoke in the house" from a power outage. If it all goes to heck, then I will scrap my current proj and do an up/out install... probably muttering "they were right" the whole time!

If the stove looses power, then the stove fire dies and the stove fills with smoke. If there is no OAK, then the room fills with smoke!

The up and out provides enough draft when there is no power to remove the smoke from the stove and the house properly.
When doing an outside vertical the cold temps and dampness get in the pipe to clog it up much more often. That is why the interior up and out is the most recommended install.

Also if the outside vent termination was above the window, rather than below the window to the left like it is, then it would be code acceptable being 1 foot above the window.

Of course if the stove was ever changed out, and another stove put in the same place, an adjustable pipe could be added for any difference in the stove's vent flange height. In the straight out install you have to change the hole in the house. I just plugged a hole like that yesterday and put in an up and out kit. The vinly siding was black, the soffit was black and the new stove flange was higher than the old stove flange. Therefore I installed an up & out kit.
The straight out install can spit hot embers that cause fires sometimes too!

Also you must go out from the house far enough so the house will not get black from the smoke. If there is a ventilated soffit above the vent termination you should come out beyond that also so smoke will not get in the attic!

Just my experience.

What's the proximity of that shrubbery in the 7th pic?

I'd still look into the proximity of the vent to that meter. Heaven forbid if something happened, your insurance company is gonna look for anyway they can out of a claim. If that meter proximity isn't code kosher.........

you're going to have to be DAMN quick to get the genny running before the fire smokes back in the house. in my experience, you have about 2 minuets. and i have 15' of up-pipe..... ut it sound slike you do have an oak so that should be minimized at least a little.

@Don2222 Thanks for all that...no soffits, so thats good... if this system doesn't work, these forums will be the first to know and hopefully that will help others... if this system does "fail" then its an up and out.

@P38X2 The shrubbery is 38" from center of vent. Im going to find out about the electric meter tomorrow... so far it sounds like there are no clearance issues which is kind of surprising.

@briansol Thanks for that, i was wondering how that system would actually work. I imagine I will never be that quick. I hope the OAK buys me time, and there is some type of battery backup/surge protector for these stoves. Maybe I will look more into that... i believe that is supposed to prevent smoke in the house from power failure.

First fire in the stove today! Installed and waiting on the inspector. Thanks so much to everyone on here who made it possible.

Criter catcher attaches a bit odd...

All sealed and in place

Need better drill bits before i can secure this with lil screws

First Fire! Needs some trim work to finish it up.

Not too obtrusive looking

Getting it inspected next week... hate having to wait... gives me time to finish the trim.

The Selkirk DT system seems to go together easy and hasn't leaked after 3 hours of running. So far so good. My horizontal instal is on a good side for wind, I hope that prevents any discoloration on the house other people have had.

I'm no expert but from the outside pics it looks like your pipe has a downward slope. Should point up.

It will fail inspection if the fan fails or power goes out your house will fill with smoke

@turbosporsche Thank you. I will figure out a fix. Eventually it'll prob be up/out or something. Generator and battery back up in the future. Till then fingers crossed.

I'm sure you've got your reasons but why didn't you do a traditional corner install? Was it because of your venting limitations near the meter and the porch?

@Harman Lover 007 when I decided I was going to do the install myself, I didn't know much about what was involved. I had trouble initially figuring out a corner placement. I got nervous when I was designing everything as far as clearances go so I way over did it. Looking at it know, and knowing what I went through along the way, I'm kicking myself for a few reasons. But I learned a ton on this project and the stove is working great. Can't wait to do another one!

I hear ya.....the clearances are actually a bit less with a corner install but the venting can be a challenge in some cases...
