Found a used stove, what questions to ask?

How bad is the baffle damage? How long has the stove been run with damaged baffles? Is there any warping inside. Have him send pics and post them here. Also, can he pull the trivet cover and send a picture of the stove top. Look for whitened or light grey paint. What shape are the firebricks in?

3.5 hours away is a decent trip to go look at a stove .Whats his asking price.with the baffle damage he admits to my worry is that the stove has been pushed to its limits many times causing other issues and thats why hes ready to unload it

He moved to a new house and when removing the bricks he said they were cracked and fell apart, so he just got rid of them. The new house doesn't have anywhere to put it. He also said the glass is dirty from burning alot. He's asking 1000 as-is. Used for two seasons.

you might be in my general area. I seen his add all over wisconsin and he posted it over a month ago. it does not look bad but they only go for 2100 new or so.I would lowball him 500 depending how it all checks out.there is a guy in marion that has used stoves can't think of the name right now but will check

I asked for a picture of the top of the stove box and got this. Is that rust on there? Is that normal? My local dealer quoted me 2645 plus tax with a blower which prompted my search on CL. He claims nothing is warped and he always ran it with a thermometer.
I would be interested in contacting the guy in Marion, he's alot closer than this guy!

i would keep looking if it were me,i would be hard pressed to go more than 500 for it.

I seem to have lost the number.it was a name brand stove shop in marion.there can't be many there.sorry bout that.
Bricks and baffles don't usually fail after just a couple years. Something smells here and not of roses. His price is too high considering.

I agree, if this guy wants to get 1000 bucks he aught to be replacing the fire bricks and the baffle himself, as well as giving it a good thorough cleaning.
That being said, I don't know if I'd even want to own a stove that you have to replace the baffles every 2 years on.
Normally you wouldn't be replacing the baffle. The 1900's baffle is high up. You should never be loading wood so high as to hit it. Something is suspicious here.

That is a decent deal, but there's a little hyperbole there. Tom has the Super 27 listed for $1685. The Nappy 1900 is a 3 cu ft stove so the second question is whether the Super 27 is big enough.
