My wife meant well! She got home from work early yesterday, it was warm outside, so she decided to help me and fully clean out the ashes from inside the insert. Looks like she used a vacuum. I had a great coal bed working from oak and locust burning.

Just imagine if you were trying to help her and added waaaaay to much bleach to the laundry..what would she do to you?

Hopefully that was a metal shop vac. Otherwise, you might want to pull the bag on the unit.

Well gzecc, now you have to start from scratch again. As for the wife, I'd be very thankful for her help but would also explain why you want some ashes left. Also, like BeGreen stated, I hope she didn't suck some hot coals into that vacuum.

It's not like it was the Olympic torch. You'll get over it.

My wife takes a notion sometimes to let the fire go out when she wants me to clean out the ashes but has never actually cleaned them out herself.

Where are the ashes now? Seems like you could just put them back if they are in the vacuum or ash bucket. Just pick out the nice charcoals. But in any case, at least she is making an effort to be helpful, and with a little experience that may prove useful.

She meant well, that's what counts. Mine likes to add huge splits on to tiny coals and winds up BBQing them.

That sounds familiar....

Man, if my other half cleaned out the ashes from the stove I would be pouring her a nice glass of wine and give her a back massage. :wow:

Jags... you're making me swoon ;-)

The only one who helps me clean out the ashes is Murphy, and he's more of a hinderance than a help :)
