Here's one of the crack. It's right below the tip of the chisel. You can't really see the crack in this pic, but you can see it bent down a hair. The chisel is sitting on top of the gasket of the by pass damper.

That stoves been ran HARD!
Once again, I'd skip the silicone near the liner. 1/4" is very acceptable.
 
Lots of those bars are bent or melted. It's purpose is to keep you from shoving wood into the bypass. Mine was welded in crooked but is not melted.
