Is anyone using Hardiebacker or another brand of cement board for a blockoff plate? Most discussions I’ve seen on this are from several years back. I have used sheet metal before but it was pretty tough and tedious cutting and bending the metal. Hardiebacker cuts well and I’m planning on ringing the flue with angle iron and screw screwing the board to it. I appreciate any input or criticism anyone has to offer.

I prefer metal just because that's what I am used to using and I have all the tools. But cement board is absolutely a good material for the job as well
