Hi i have a 91 Jamestown J1000 and have an awedully loud exhaust fan. I have oiled it before and the sound greatly reduces but will come back in 10mins or so.
Is there a way to repair this fan? I have had 0 luck on getting a replacement, and do not wish to pay the 400 from canada to get it... anyone with some advice or parting out a J1000?

Thanks!

Did not see a tag on the fan, perhaps on the backside where i cannot see... I do remember seeing a made in germany note on the convection fan motor if that helps... The stove was built June 1991 and the Serial is WH - 15435

Thanks

Stove model and serial doesn't help with aftermarket motors. That's why I asked for a motor number.

What you have is a C frame motor. Measure the shaft dia and length. Most likely 3000 rpm's.

check here to see if you can match one up?

http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/ecatalog/N-/No-0/Ntt-c+frame

Ok i took the stove off the pedestal and the back off etc. got the housing out and broke the 4 rubber mounts that attach to the plate on top of the housing... i assume i can glue these back on later.
I got the motor out and inspected some things, and found the label on the motor. Made by Durham Products in NC. Here are some numbers off of it.
115V 60hz 25mhp cont duty
1PH Class B 3100 RPM .8AMP
025353 (model #?)
12/93 date i assume
based on the serial number i was told this is actually a 94

Really you could probably fix the noise with just changing the bearings, But the motor should come with new ones. I'll see if I can find something with the numbers you posted.

Motor cross I got is here.

http://www.cshincorporated.com/product_info.php/products_id/11237

But it has a 1/4 inch shaft. I think yours is 5/16 inch. So you may need a shaft adapter.

http://www.cshincorporated.com/product_info.php/products_id/7502

Before you jump in and order. Please check the shaft length. This motor is 1 3/4 inches long. If yours is longer this may not work!

My shaft is an 1/8" longer, and it is a 5/16"diameter. btw you really know your stuff. i dont think this will work due to the shaft length... I am considering finding bearings to replace the existing ones... any ideas for them?

Thanks

How far back is the setscrew on the impellet?

Bearings I would need the measurements or there should be a number on them. Most likely on the tin shield. I would go with the bearings should be less than $20.00 for the fix!

Yes, the bearings had clear labeling 608V, turns out a very common metric bearing

Found them at Mcmaster Carr: SKU 5972K222 METRIC STEEL BALL BEARING, DOUBLE SEALED BEARING NO. 608 FOR 8MM SHAFT DIA

each bearing was $4.24

Put them on the shaft, and reassembled, put back in and test fired. no more screech!

that was $8 repair versus a $400 dollar part!

thanks for your help!
